Richtfest!!!

Monday, 30. August 2010

It poured from Sunday evening through to Monday morning round 7 am. Needless to say I wasn't to positive about the probability of our roof getting finished and about being able to celebrate it with 40 + people.

But low and behold just in time for the carpenters the sky cleared up and no more rain fell.

They worked at an incredible pace and before we realised it we had a roof over our heads. Finally!

And were about to celebrate in style. Yes, it did get cold later on in the evening, but it didn't seem to bother anyone. Maybe because we had more than enough (if not too much) food and drink for all, and a fire.

Mounting the Richtbaum.

Bauherr!

Neighbours and friends.

Preparing the last nail in the roof - to be hit in as quick as possible by our representative - Eugen!

Our Stars - the builders!

Hammering - 1,2,3...

10, 11, 12...48,49,50!

Much to the amusement of all.

Then the head carpenter made a speech, blessed and toasted to our house and many years of happiness and threw down his glass - which shattered into tiny pieces (thank goodness as it is meant to be good luck)!

Our pretty Birke (Birch tree) for our Birkenstrasse house!

Cleared sky on a day which was forecast with 90% rain!

It was a good day.

Today, I picked Eugen up from the airport and we drove directly to the property - what else!

Everyone has been working like crazy to make sure that on Monday the roof can be started. And we can celebrate the Richtfest!
The builders worked very late on Saturday, through wind and rain, and here are the results.

Presenting.... Our first floor!

Thursday, 26th August 2010

What a pleasant surprise...
Worrying that we wouldn't be able to celebrate the roof wetting on Monday due to too much rain was unwarranted apparently!

They are building our top floor walls at a dizzying pace.

No real reason to worry about the walls being finished in time. Although, the mail we got in our Postbox today is a little disconcerting.
They want to work on the roads from Monday through Friday. With Wednesday and Thursday the road being completely blocked!
Now the weather seems to be one of the irrelevant problems... Lets hope everything we need for the roof and the party on Monday is able to get through the roadworks! :)

Ground Floor? Check!

Wednesday, 25th August 2010

We now have a interim roof over our ground floor!

Yesterday, no roof. Today, concrete slabs and poured concrete!
These guys really want to celebrate the roof wetting on Monday. Wow!
