It poured from Sunday evening through to Monday morning round 7 am. Needless to say I wasn't to positive about the probability of our roof getting finished and about being able to celebrate it with 40 + people.
But low and behold just in time for the carpenters the sky cleared up and no more rain fell.
They worked at an incredible pace and before we realised it we had a roof over our heads. Finally!
And were about to celebrate in style. Yes, it did get cold later on in the evening, but it didn't seem to bother anyone. Maybe because we had more than enough (if not too much) food and drink for all, and a fire.
Mounting the Richtbaum.
Bauherr!
Neighbours and friends.
Preparing the last nail in the roof - to be hit in as quick as possible by our representative - Eugen!
Our Stars - the builders!
Hammering - 1,2,3...
10, 11, 12...48,49,50!
Much to the amusement of all.
Then the head carpenter made a speech, blessed and toasted to our house and many years of happiness and threw down his glass - which shattered into tiny pieces (thank goodness as it is meant to be good luck)!
Our pretty Birke (Birch tree) for our Birkenstrasse house!
Cleared sky on a day which was forecast with 90% rain!
It was a good day.
:)
